2 Halves as a Whole, 'Viruses Found (2)', 2026, installation view, West Space Window, Collingwood Yards. Photography by Joy Zhou.

Viruses Found (2) is the second in our two-part West Space Window series by artists in residence at Yarra Youth Services.

With this installation, artist collective 2 Halves as A Whole reject the idea of the 'Woke Mind Virus', a term popularised by Elon Musk to discredit social justice, collective care, and dissent. Reframing this rhetoric through the visual and linguistic logic of cybersecurity, hoax malware, and networked systems, the artists seek to expose the way power pathologises ideology to maintain control.

Central to the installation is the digital work, RabbitHole.wmv, depicting a colourful computer virus infecting X with dancing baloney and rabbit-infested code - playfully disarming reactionary moral panic that recasts human rights as an absurd viral threat.

The West Space Window is supported by the City of Yarra. This project forms part of West Space's ongoing collaboration with Yarra Youth Services, Fitzroy.

2 Halves as A Whole is a collaboration by Naarm (Melbourne) based artists Paige Templeton and Ali Bagnato. Formed in 2022, the duo create satirical work grounded in lived experience, using humour and collaboration to interrogate how contemporary visual culture produces identity, value and power.
