“To work/to be in three spaces/places at once”
Kay Abude
20 Sept → 24 Sept 2010
Three workspaces were recreated inside West Space, Kay Abude's studio, her home bedroom, and the office of the Victorian College of the Arts.
Elements from the three locations were appropriated, and fundamental objects were brought into the space to construct a minimal installation reminiscent of a film set. The performative piece explored art and life as simultaneous processes through the occurrence of work. The artist lived inside the space and within the Melbourne Central complex for five days.
Kay Abude is an artist in Naarm/Melbourne. She has an expanded sculptural practice working in large-scale installation, photography, performance, video and silk screen printing. Abude’s work is about work itself: the value of it, the effort, the inequality and insecurity of it, especially for artists.
