Species of Spaces
Ryszard Dabek, Melissa Laing, WIRED Lab and Brett Jones
12 June → 4 July 2009

Species of Spaces is a collaborative project by Ryszard Dabek, Brett Jones, Melissa Laing and WIRED Lab.

The title of the project is taken from the English translation of the French writer Georges Perec’s 1974 volume Espéces d’espaces. Like Perec’s book the exhibition is concerned with the possibilities inherent in the act of describing space.

For each artist, space is understood as a container and conduit of a multiplicity of relations, operations and forces. This is a model of spatial engagement that is underpinned to a certain degree by the architectural, either overtly as subject or as absent authority.
