My solo with a Magpie in it
Miles Howard-Wilks
10 Apr → 9 May 2015

Miles Howard-Wilks' paintings are often described as having ‘otherworldly’ qualities. They are vibrant, complex land or underwater scenes; multifarious, imaginary places that are teeming with life.

Howard-Wilks takes subjects he is passionate about, magpies, trains and sharks, and integrates them into these fictitious scenes, which are originally influenced by actual land and seascapes. There is a lot to discover in his paintings, as the viewer circumnavigates the scene following the railways, rolling hills or crashing waves, and encountering uniquely Australian flora and fauna, including magpies, crocodiles and great white sharks.

My solo with a Magpie in it presents new paintings, animation and ceramics that traverse imagined seascape motifs.

This project is a collaboration between Arts Project Australia and West Space.

Miles Howard-Wilks is primarily a painter, he works across a range of mediums including ceramics, photography and animation. He is dedicated to exploring themes such as Australian landscapes, seascapes, football and, more specifically, sharks, magpies and trains. He often combines several of these themes into one, complex painting.
