Magnetic Traces is a two-stage listening program curated by Philip Samartzis and Eric La Casa and presented in collaboration with West Space and Project Space designed to highlight a diverse range of environmental sound practices emanating from Australia and France including field recording, bioacoustics, acoustic ecology, improvisation, electroacoustic composition and surround sound spatialisation.

Artists include Eric La Casa, Jean-Luc Guionnet, Thomas Tilly, Cédric Peyronnet, Loïc Blairon, Eamon Sprod, Camilla Hannan, Thembi Soddell, Anthea Caddy, Geoff Robinson and Lizzie Pogson. Accompanying the listening program is a series of video projections by Marcia Jane focusing on an experiential view of time, place and gesture.

Magnetic Traces is supported by RMIT University, the French Embassy in Australia and the City of Melbourne.

Philip Samartzis

Eric La Casa and Jean-Luc Guionnet are sound artists from Paris who have been working regularly together since 1998. If Eric La Casa has always studied the question of sound environment, Jean-Luc Guionnet works with a wider sphere of musical activities in many areas of sound.
