“Kate Rohde”
Kate Rohde
18 Nov → 3 Dec 2005
Chateau Fatale continues Kate Rohde’s exploration of the often strange way humans relate to nature. Using an extensive range of craft and hardware materials, including silicone, expanding foam, fake fur and rice paper, she will transform the gallery into a room reminiscent of a European palace.
Inspired by the aesthetic of such locations as Chateau Versailles and The Vienna Natural History Museum, the room will house a collection of zoological, botanical and geological specimens made by the artist, which rather than factually representing natural history, take a more playful, decorative approach.
This project has been supported by the Australia Council for the Arts.
Kate Rohde is a Naarm/Melbourne based artist known for her intensely colourful jewellery and sculptural object based practice, nowadays working predominately with resin and hand casting techniques.
