Deleting the Monarchy is a recent work in Janenne Eaton's ongoing series – The Penal Colony. She says,
"Our future: King Charles III, King of Australia. How anachronistic is that!
I am fond of the ‘delete’ key on my computer keyboard.
I like the process of highlighting the unnecessary word, or the superfluous paragraph, even whole pages, then tapping the delete key
.. cleared space in a nanosecond.
Through a combination of processes and particular ‘format functions’ of analogue and digital video media I found a way to mimic the ‘delete’ move. I then applied it to a royal ‘procession’ of all the English kings, queens, princesses and princes."
Janenne Eaton is a Naarm/Melbourne based artist whose practice extends across painting, installation, video, historical archaeology and teaching.
