“Australiana”
Torie Nimmervoll and Arie Rain Glorie
1 Aug → 13 Aug 2014
Australiana is a performance by Torie Nimmervoll and Arie Rain Glorie addressing Australian colonial history.
Occurring over ten days (57 hours in total) the artists will perform with a series of ‘Australian’materials. Displayed on a plinth with a corresponding information sheet, the viewer will be encouraged to consider the history of the materials and the identity of the artists within the context of Australia.
With this project the Nimmervoll and Rain Glorie hope to provoke a discussion about how colonialism is still present in contemporary Australia. They will demonstrate how we come in contact with colonial subtext every single day through the objects and materials that surround us and is exploration into how artists can assist to reconcile this country with its history.
Torie Nimmervoll's practice revolves around the body’s relationship to space and the objects within it, often using her own body for exploration. Nimmervoll often considers herself as a prop, rather than a body in performance.
Arie Rain Glorie is a visual artist who uses a diverse range of mediums including performance, video, and installation art. Previous and current artworks often use repetitive bodily gesture to share personal anxieties and experiences that blur the line between truth and fiction and comedy and tragedy.
