Stepping Stones is yet another chapter in the artist’s life which helps him understand more clearly the situations of his past and present. Featuring filmed performance and nocturnal landscape paintings of the western suburbs, this exhibition is a mix of day-to-day life and the processes of creating art. Using the play of light and shadows of both night and early morning allows for expressionistic rendering of a locality that is lush, rich and underpinned with violence.

ROBERT BARTOLO was born in Footscray, Melbourne in 1977. He holds a Bachelor of Fine Art (Drawing) from the Victorian College of the Arts. He currently practices out of Kings Gallery Studios.
