Space, Pieces of:
Bridie Lunney
2 Nov 2012 - 24 Nov 2012
· West Space ·
Back Space
Opening: Thursday 6-8pm 22 November 2012
This project literally and conceptually links West Space with contemporary jewellery gallery, Pieces of Eight. Both spaces are new galleries, shifting the city to create a new designation of space. This project aims to allow and invite that shifting and instability to continue through the movement of materials and objects from one gallery to another over the duration of the exhibition.
The gallery space will present like an archeological dig of materials used within the city’s architecture. Like the dormant materials stacked on the periphery of a construction site full of potential energy, there will be a layering of bluestone, form ply, glass, steel, concrete and support structures. As a spatial practitioner and a jeweler, Lunney will make works which incorporate these raw materials with traditional materials from her jewellery practice.
By utilising a combination of materials, from traditional jewellery practice, building construction materials and found objects, Lunney intends to be coerced into generating new forms of objects and new techniques. These hybrids will be generated over the course of the exhibition and displayed both at West Space and in the window at Pieces of Eight.
