The focus of this exhibition is the relationship between geographic and cultural space.
remapping Australia is an ongoing project (since 2000) about the psychology of topographic space; in particular the South Sea Island we know as Australia.
The original image for this work occurred during a residence in Paris, looking back at my country of birth.
Annita Furey, born in Melbourne 1947 was represented by Powell Street Gallery, South Yarra over a 20 year period. Lived in Paris in 1983-4. Most recent Melbourne solo exhibition was in 2002 at Chapman and Bailey, Abbostford. She has maintained the independence of drawing as a vehicle throughout her practice and is currently completing a Master of Fine Art, at the Victorian College of the Arts, 2004.
