Six curators were allocated a space in the gallery within which to explore any aspects of curatorial practice they chose. There was only one stipulation: as the object was not to have 6 mini exhibitions of ‘artists work’ but to exhibit curatorial practice, no original artworks were allowed.

The invited curators represented individuals who have worked in public institutions, university galleries and artist-run spaces. The boundaries of the exhibition extended to include a forum, Jack High, and a dedicated issue of Dialogue, Greens, that dealt with curatorial issues.

Curated was presented in conjunction with the 1997 Melbourne International Festival.
